It is inevitable to experience differences when planning a trip with your family. You might have different ideas on what you want to do. You also need to consider how much you are going to spend, which could also cause arguments. If you cannot come up with similar ideas, you might have no other choice but to suspend the trip. Before this happens, these are some things you need to do to settle the differences and continue planning.
Set a family meeting
To make it clear to everyone what will happen, you need to set a family meeting. It is crucial that all the people involved in the trip will have a seat at the table. When you decide on behalf of other family members, they might not be happy about it and choose not to join the trip. Even if they do, they will keep complaining because they were unhappy with what everyone decided. You do not want to be with a grumpy person during the trip. If you cannot set a time when everyone can be in the same place to discuss things, you can create a group chat. In doing so, everyone will be on the same page for updates.
Use the democratic method
If you cannot settle the differences through regular discussions and argumentation, you can put the motion to a vote. Whichever plan wins after voting will prevail. You need to make it clear to everyone that the process will go this way; otherwise, they might feel surprised and think that you are railroading them.
Plan months in advance
Even with early preparation, you might still end up with differences among the family. Imagine if you tried to plan at the last minute. You might end up going back and forth and not making a final decision. Early planning also allows you to make changes when necessary.
Assign someone as leader
If you wish to still make this trip happen, but you are too lazy to plan, the best option is to assign someone to do the job. Make sure that this person is willing to go through the planning process alone. You also need to make it clear that you are letting one person take charge. Therefore, the least that everyone else can do is to cooperate. When things do not turn out the way everyone expected, blaming the organiser is not a healthy option.
Start planning now
After determining how you are going to move forward with this plan, it is time for you to start planning. Finalise the number of people travelling and the dates of the trip.
If you want to reduce the expenses, you can find large houses to rent. If you do so, you will only be spending money to rent the place. You will not spend on airfares and other expenses necessary to travel far away. Despite the differences, you need to find a way to make things work out.
