Should companies buy Instagram followers? More followers mean more reach, attention, and pull, which speaks for it. But what are the risks of bought followers, and what might it even harm? Read all the advantages and disadvantages of buying Instagram followers here.
Why Buy Instagram Followers?
Followers: everyone wants them – the more, the better, from private users to influencers to companies, whether small, medium-sized, or large. Even in times of quality education and “Content is King,” the number of followers is still the main quantitative KPI (Key Performance Indicator) for the success (or failure) of a social media presence.
Because even if we often know better, we are programmed to follow the crowd for evolutionary reasons. Where the group is, there is security – and many people can’t be wrong, can they? So if we become aware of a page, the first look – often unconsciously – goes to the number of followers. If the number is high, we too are more likely to follow. If the number is low, we might reconsider or even question the professionalism and quality of the company.
The fact is: A successful social media presence has three main KPIs:
- Number of followers
- Interaction rate (like a number)
- Content
And yes, unfortunately, in that order. You can imagine the whole thing as a pyramid – or even better as an iceberg: Without good content at the base, you will not generate any interactions or followers, and the construct will collapse sooner or later. But the number of followers is the “famous peak” that we see at first glance (and consciously or unconsciously evaluate).
That’s why more and more companies are asking themselves: Should we buy Instagram followers?
Of course, the moral and PR answer to this is “No,” while the marketeer or business economist in us asks: “Why not?”. So let’s take a very objective look at the advantages and disadvantages of buying social media followers – and what else you can do as an alternative.
Where Can You Buy Instagram Followers?
First of all, let’s assume that you have already done a lot of research and are determined to buy followers. The purchase works through two main tools:
- Apps
- Web pages
For other articles, for example, our knowledge articles about image films, film production, or social media, we link to external websites at this point. However, since I am not behind buying followers, I do without it at this point.
In apps, you need a Smartphone to buy followers, and you have to download the corresponding app (s). The purchases are made via in-app payment. You are usually directed to a payment page and pay by credit card. In some cases, there may be more payment options on websites.
You can find the apps in the App Store and the Internet pages using a Google search. In both cases, make sure that the provider is as severe as possible – or at least as serious as you can be with a business model in the gray area because there are:
Risks When Buying Followers
When buying followers, there are sometimes considerable risks, of which unbelief in your target group is still the smallest. Of course, bought followers also have advantages, namely more significant numbers next to your profile picture, thus more apparent success (at first glance; more on this below) and perhaps more recognition from the boss or competitor. But that’s pretty much it.
The following risks counter this:
- Incredibility
- Loss of image
- Viruses or malware
- Credit card fraud
- Deletion of your account
Wait a minute – what?! Really. Let’s briefly talk about the risks of buying followers for social media. Incredibility and loss of image if your target group and “real” followers find out – for free. You can fix that again once you post excellent content and get real followers.
But as already mentioned: Not all providers of business models in the legal gray area are reliable – especially not according to the standard.
