Some people require the environment to be perfect before they can start meditation. They want a quiet place which is far from the noise of the city. They want fresh air blowing on their face. However, these situations are not always possible. Despite that, you need to meditate. The worst part is when you are mentally distracted, and you are not in the mood to meditate. Remember these tips to meditate successfully despite your environment and mental state.
Always meditate
The key is to keep practising meditation. You will find it tricky at first, but you will eventually find it easy after constant practice. Some people can even meditate while on the bus to work. You need to include meditation in your schedule. No matter how busy you are, you need to allot time to meditate. With more time to practise, it will be easy for you to succeed in meditating.
Use music
If you want to pretend you are in a different environment, you need to put your headphones on. You can play soothing music or audio tracks that reflects the sounds of nature. This type of music helps keep you calm and focused. When you meditate, even the slightest distraction will take your focus away.
Be aware of your breathing
You need to focus on your breathing to gradually get rid of distractions. When you inhale, you need to hold your breath for about ten seconds before one big exhale. Focusing on your breath might seem complicated at first, but it will eventually become a natural part of your meditative process. It is like counting sheep to make you sleep at night. By focusing on your breathing, it is easy for you to focus on meditation.
Start small
You don’t need to force yourself to meditate for several minutes when you are unable to do it. If there are things that bother you, it will be good enough if you allot 5 minutes or so to meditate. You will also feel accomplished if you set realistic goals and achieve such goals. You can work your way up as you start practising more often.
Think of a saying
You need to have a saying or a mantra to bear in mind. When you can’t focus, you need to think of that saying to remind you to focus on what you are doing. It also helps build your confidence and make you happy with your life. You can use this mantra not only when meditating, but in motivating yourself.
You might get distracted for several reasons, but you can’t use them as excuses to not meditate. You can still succeed when meditating despite feeling distracted, by constant practice. Who knows? You can might do well and open a meditation business in the future. You can provide authentic advice because you went through the entire process. You can undergo training too so that you will enhance your skills in meditation, and also encourage others to meditate.
