Whether you will spend time reading, listening to music, scrolling through the news or taking 10 minutes to yourself, it is important to take time to relax and creating a cosy book in your home to promote this will give you a daily reminder to take these well-deserved breaks.
“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.”
Find A Place To Create The Nook
It doesn’t matter on the size or placement, just find a space that will be a great place to relax. If you live in a house with other people, this may be ideally in a secluded area. The importance is the space will achieve what you want.
If you are lost for inspiration, spaces with views of a window or a fireplace are great spots for getting lost, it provides the brain with a simple distraction that means you can forget about what daily struggles you are currently facing.
Choosing The Right Colour Scheme
Different colours can cause different emotions, and as you are looking to create a cosy and comforting nook in your home it is important to choose the colours that make you feel peaceful.
Depending on your personal preference, this could be any colour, but if you are stuck for inspiration neutrals, greens or pinks are known to be relaxing and soothing.
How To Separate The Space
You don’t want to corner yourself off, as this can make you lose space or make the room look smaller. High wing-back armchairs are a great way to add a small alcove in a larger space. It doesn’t seclude you from the room but creates a feeling of privacy which can be very relaxing. Placing a lamp above the chair will give you a spot light that will provide a pool of light at night.
Another way to separate the space is to place a rug under the furniture, then you know when your foot touches the rug that this is your calm space.
How To Make The Space Feel Cosy
The key is to choose an accent chair that you can’t resist sitting in, a chair that will make you want to go and spend time relaxing in it. You could choose your favourite colour or upholstery. Do you want it to have an ottoman so you can put your feet up?
The trick is to think of things that make you happy and relaxed. Are you a bookworm who loves getting lost in the pages? Maybe adding a bookshelf to give you easy access would be a good idea. Or if you are more of a listener, you could have a sideboard with speakers or a record player to allow you to get lost in songs. The designs are endless.
You may want to look at having a spot to place a drink, a blanket over the chair in case you get cold and maybe some photos of your favourite memories to help you to reminisce.
After you’ve finished decorating your cosy nook, what is the first thing you are going to enjoy spending time doing there?
